چکیده

In this paper we present a paradigm for simulating complex systems. Such systems, typically found in Scientiic and Engineering domains (simulating an engine, designing an airplane wing), involve multiple physical phenomena with complicated geometry. The computational techniques we propose use cooperating agents. Our focus in this paper will be on phenomenon modeled by PDEs, although much of the proposed methodology is equally applicable to any scientiic computing task. We subdivide the physical object into components of simple geometric shapes modeled by a single, homogeneous mathematical model for which a problem solving environment (PSE) exists. PSEs are viewed as agents which solve the PDE on each component independently. The interfaces between the components must have physical interface conditions satissed; mediator agents use relaxation techniques for this. We brieey describe an agent-based architecture and its implementation (SciAgents) for building simulation systems that implement this paradigm. This approach is naturally parallel and highly scalable; it is suitable for a wide variety of parallel and distributed high performance computing (HPC) architectures; it allows for the reuse and evolution of existing HPC software, and for a convenient abstraction of the solution process.

A Multiagent Reinforcement Learning algorithm to solve the Community Detection Problem

Community detection is a challenging optimization problem that consists of searching for communities that belong to a network under the assumption that the nodes of the same community share properties that enable the detection of new characteristics or functional relationships in the network. Although there are many algorithms developed for community detection, most of them are unsuitable when ...

Reliability analysis of repairable systems using system dynamics modeling and simulation

Repairable standby system’s study and analysis is an important topic in reliability. Analytical techniques become very complicated and unrealistic especially for modern complex systems. There have been attempts in the literature to evolve more realistic techniques using simulation approach for reliability analysis of systems. This paper proposes a hybrid approach called as Markov system ...

On Learning and Adaptation in Multiagent Systems: A Scienti c Computing Perspective

Systems with interacting agents are now being proposed to solve many problems grouped together under the \distributed problem solving" umbrella. For such systems to work properly, it is necessary that agents learn from their environment and adapt their behaviour accordingly. We investigate such systems in the context of scientiic computing. The physical world consists of interacting system, and...

Multiagent Based Simulation Tool for Transportation and Logistics Decision Support

A transportation and logistics domain belongs to complex problems domains because there are many geographically distributed companies who may enter or leave the system at any time. Analysis of the great number of publications reveals that although traditional mathematical modelling and simulation techniques still dominate, new approaches start to appear. Agent technologies and multiagent system...
